It’s hard to imagine these days, given that the brand has transformed into the pinnacle of luxury home design. And the world of RH is still continuously expanding—as evidenced by this month’s opening of RH Estates, The Gallery—a first-of-its-kind venture by the brand, adjoining the existing RH Greenwich in Connecticut. Spanning some 20,000 square feet and housed within a Beaux Arts building, the new space is a stately testament to the talent of the RH design team, serving as both a furniture store and restaurant.
“I have the RH Cloud couch, of course,” a vintage Dior-clad Paige Paul, the founder of Dairy Boy, told Vogue. “Me and everyone else!” The model recently opened the doors of her Fairfield home to Architectural Digest, allowing fans a peek into the surroundings she shares with her tennis star husband, Tommy Paul.
On the first floor, guests floated around furniture from the Paloma, Valencia, and Baldacchino collections by Formations. The floor also houses Cucina Angelina, the warmly-lit, 88-seat Italian restaurant named in honor of Angelina Ascari, RH Chairman and Friedman’s mother (visitors to the RH Gallery in Milan will find a Cucina Angelina there too.)
Upstairs, beyond the grand limestone steps, the second level opens up into a thoughtfully designed space with collections from designer Michael Taylor. “I’m so impressed with Gary as an entrepreneur,” Derek Blasberg said, while catching up with friends near an ice sculpture offering caviar-topped delicacies. “It’s been incredible and undeniably impressive what he has managed to do.”
Over glasses of Ruinart Champagne and Vesper London martinis, attendees, including Athena Calderone and Reed and Delphine Krakoff, explored quiet corners and paused to take in the scent of Trudon candles. Across from Cucina Angelina, a sign accurately sums up the appeal: “There are spaces you move through and those that move you.”
