He was wearing handcuffs on both wrists, but they were not connected to each other or attached to the chair that he rocked back and forth during the proceeding.

Nick also debuted a new look, opting to cut his hair and leave prominent sideburns while shaving the remainder of his face.

At least two female fans were seated in the courtroom’s gallery, and they did not appear to be immediate family members.

Wednesday’s hearing was a continuation from Oct. 7, with Judge Sam Ohta once again extending the hearing to Jan. 13.

Ohta said Wednesday that Nick was “indicted unbeknownst to his counsel” and feels it’s appropriate to give the defense team more time, arguing that public access to the grand jury transcripts and exhibits that led to Nick’s July indictment is not more important than his rights.

Nick was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing deaths of his dad and mom inside their Brentwood home in December 2025.

The indictment also includes special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and “lying in wait,” along with an allegation that he personally used a deadly weapon, a knife.

Rob, 78, and his photographer spouse, 70, died within “minutes” of suffering multiple sharp-force injuries, according to their death certificates.

Nick was arrested shortly after the couple was found dead and has remained behind bars without bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility.

Nick — who was diagnosed with schizophrenia before the killings and has a long history of drug addiction — has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman previously announced that prosecutors would not be seeking the death penalty if Nick is convicted of killing Rob and Michele, explaining his office reached the decision after reviewing aggravating and mitigating factors, as well as consulting with prosecutors, law enforcement and the victims’ other surviving children.

However, Hochman did not disclose what punishment Jake Reiner, 35, and Romy Reiner, 28, want prosecutors to pursue.

With capital punishment off the table, Nick faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

His brother and sister also asked that the grand jury transcripts and exhibits in the case remain sealed, with Hochman deferring to the court to decide whether they should be made public.
