Action Bronson’s New Balance Collaborations Are Getting Even Weirder

After kicking off the year with two New Balance Abzorb 1890 collaborations, rapper Action Bronson is adding to the set with a third colorway tied to an upcoming music project and apparel collection.

Officially revealed Tuesday is Action Bronson’s New Balance Abzorb 1890 “Planet Frog” colorway. Shifting from the more cohesive shades seen on the previous “Cyborg Tears” and “Hornet Tusk,” the new Planet Frog style is more in line with the artist’s past New Balance work with clashing colors that seem like they wouldn’t complement one another on paper, yet blend together well on the final product.

The Action Bronson x New Balance Abzorb 1890 Planet Frog begins with a golden brown mesh base that’s supported by a gray suede structure overlay. Pops of color come at the orange heel counter, while a green midsole is balanced with blue. A perforated brown leather tongue adds further contrast, as do a set of two-tone aqua shoelaces. The shoe also blends small hits of purple and red throughout.

All in all, the upcoming Planet Frog colorway is one of the multihyphenate entertainer’s most daring color combinations yet with certain elements that are reminiscent of his debut New Balance 990v6 “Baklava” collaboration from 2023. 

Collaborations aside, May is already shaping up to be a huge month for New Balance releases. The Boston-based athletic footwear company’s month-long “Grey Days” campaign will include heritage-inspired spins on its most popular sneakers spanning basketball, lifestyle, running, skate and tennis.

New footwear isn’t the only thing fans can expect from the Planet Frog collection. Oakley eyewear and apparel including waterproof jackets, hoodies, hats and T-shirts were also previewed. A release date for the product has not yet been confirmed, but the “Planet Frog” album is set to debut on May 8, so it’s likely that the collection will be launched around the same timeframe.

The Action Bronson x New Balance Abzorb 1890 Planet Frog will be released soon. Retail pricing has not been confirmed, but the artist’s previous New Balance Abzorb 1890 collaborations were priced at $200.
