Shawn Mendes has been enjoying his life out of the spotlight.
Since wrapping his On The Road Again tour last year, the Canadian singer has since been enjoying some well-deserved R&R off the stage—quietly building a life with new girlfriend Bruna Marquezine, of course. “I’ve been really great,” Mendes tells Vogue of how he spent his summer. “I’ve been spending my time doing something I never really have before—building a life, community, and home outside of my career.”
This week, however, Mendes was ready for a little fashion fun again: He and Marquezine attended the Gucci spring 2027 show during Milan Fashion Week. A fitting move, given that Mendes stars in the Italian label’s new Primavera campaign. (Admit it, you’ve seen the photos of Mendes wearing a skin-tight shirt.) It may not have been Mendes’s first time in Milan this week, but he says this trip had a whole different energy to it. “Honestly, this time it felt completely different,” says Mendes. “I felt like it was the first time I was really able to see how absolutely beautiful and thoughtful of a city Milan is.”
Documenting his show day for Vogue, Mendes shared how he spends a day getting fashion week-ready. Before he starts getting ready, of course, there was a gym session in the hotel—followed by grooming with his go-to person, Anna Bernabe. Then, it was time to put on his all-black look for the show. It consisted of a perfectly-slouchy blazer, silky top, and classic dress pants. “I wanted to be relaxed, feeling in my body,” says Mendes of the ensemble. “I struggle with feeling like I need to ‘prove’ I deserve to be places sometimes, and I don’t want to entertain that anymore. So yeah, relaxed, confident, and comfortable.”
Once at the show, he and Marquezine—who also donned all-black—found their seats among the star-studded front row, where he got to mix and mingle with some fellow VIPs. (“I love Francesca Bellettini—I always feel safe and seen around her,” Mendes says.) They took in Demna’s new assortment of party dresses and statement outerwear. “My short review was that it felt so fresh to me, just a heartfelt and creative show,” says Mendes. “It’s amazing to be in the presence of greatness and execution like that!” The singer’s favorite looks that he could see himself wearing this fall? “I loved the big puffy jackets,” he says. (His Canadian roots are showing.)
Post-show, Mendes and Marquezine ended the eventful day with a quick gelato trip—when in Milan!—and a romantic dinner for two. The star admits that Marquezine, a fashion star in her own right, has played a big part in helping him find the joy in fashion and dressing again—so it’s no wonder they immersed themself into Fashion Month together. “Bruna has really opened my heart to fashion and having fun with it,” says Mendes. “I feel lucky as a man in this industry, because we tend not to be criticized and analyzed when it comes to public appearance as much, which sucks to say.”
As for what’s next for Mendes? He says he’ll be back to some “family time” for now, though the star does admit he’s “making a new album!”
