Mallorca can’t be summed up in one holiday or a month of Sundays. Its diverse and beautiful landscape is reflected in the myriad of ways to spend your precious holiday time. The capital Palma is a cosmopolitan city filled with boutique shops, buzzing bars and enough cultural activities to fill a weekend. The Tramuntana mountains are a hotspot for cyclists worldwide, seeking the thrill of the zig-zag climbs and sweltering views. The rugged coast is marked with coves filled with boats of all sizes, old fishing villages with decade old rustic tavernas and luxury marinas bedecked with glamorous bars and restaurants.
Where to wear it: Shopping along Carrer de Sant Nicolau and dipping into La Pajarita for some local sweets, mooching and drinking coffee in the endless Rialto Living before wafting back to the hotel Can Bordoy Grand House & Garden for an afternoon by the pool.
What to wear for a day in the saddle
Mallorca is used year-round as a training site for professional cycling teams and amateurs alike. Towns like Port de Pollenca are filled with bike rental shops and cafes geared towards their needs – a shrine to Bradley Wiggins and heavy carb loads. Palma also has a great selection of pro gear shops, plus a Pas Normal Studios flagship on Carrer del Pou, so don’t stress if you leave any socks at home.
Where to wear it: The Cap de Formentor cycle loop is not for the faint-hearted but the views over the lighthouse and the sea are worth the heavy climb. The new Four Seasons at the bottom is a welcome relief after a long day in the saddle.
What to wear on a boat day
It is no surprise the island’s nickname is Isla de la Calma, or Isle of Calm. Its peace and tranquility is truly remarkable, and there is no better place to relish in it than lounging on a boat in the surrounding deep blue Mediterranean sea. All you need is a sarong, and luckily Hans Zimmer’s daughter Zoe has created The 87, whose multipurpose scarves are a great packing hack – tops, skirts, dresses, head scarves – all in one simple sheet.
Where to wear it: Port de Pollenca offers many different boat hire options with the added bonus of a ride past the famous Night Manager’s house, aka Rafael Nadal’s wedding venue, and a visit from the Tiki Boat (cocktails delivered to your boat via radios). Moor up next to the Hotel Illa D’or for sunset.
What to wear at the beach
Mallorca’s coastline is world famous, with party beaches, pebbled coves, sandy coves and long stretches of sun loungers and cafes. With temperature sitting around 30°C in the summer months, pack sun-shielding clothes that are restaurant-appropriate, but remember rubber water shoes to stop sharp rocks ruining your day.
Where to wear it: Cala Llombards is a popular yet intimate beach on the south of the island. Even when the crowds descend, the mix of bring-your-own bright parasols and towels add a fun and vintage filter to the scene. The water is slow to deepen making it ideal for families.
What to wear for lunch with friends
Within Mallorca’s mountainous interior are many fabulous and fancy eateries, often within hotels such as the Mar & Duix restaurant at Grand Hotel Son Net in Puigpunyent. There are also feet in sand delicious cafe-cum-restaurants serving up more casual fare with beats and sea breezes like Patiki Beach in Port de Soller. Wearing a smart but loose fitting kaftan is perfect for this occasion as you can skip back to the lounger or bar with ease. A velvet sandal and chunky hair accessory are easy ways to elevate more casual outfits.
Where to wear it: Fashion favourite Hotel Corazon has the perfect sun drenched terrace to enjoy oversized sunnies, well curated cocktails and live music with friends. Stay over if you’re lucky enough to nab a booking in one of their 15 sought after 1970s-inspired rooms.
What to wear to the wedding
Wedding goers from all over the world flock to Mallorca every summer to take advantage of the eternal sunshine and good vibes. The ever popular day two, often at a finca complete with swimming pool, has an irresistible allure to planners. Due to the heat, most weddings happen at the end of the day, so dress in hues that will sparkle at sunset and pack fun statement accessories that you can easily whip off for the dance floor. London brands Away That Day and Gigi & Olive have collaborated on the chicest sets of bridal swimwear, perfect for the ensuing holiday (or hen!).
Where to wear it: Luxury hotel La Residenca, A Belmond Hotel is a beautiful wedding venue, perched on the hills in Deia. The rooms look over the steeped terraces which, in turn, stand proud over the town. Dress up to see and be seen in this vast warren – when a wedding is in town, it’s bedecked from top to bottom in fresh flowers and beautiful people.
