Vans has teamed up with multi-hyphenate artist Julian Klincewicz on a new capsule for its OTW label.

For the footwear offering, Klincewicz revisits two archival silhouettes, the Old Skool 36 and Style 31 with the use of new textures and personal artistic details. Both models feature suede overlays, leather details with custom labels showcasing a road sketch from Klincewicz’s 11-year ritual of daily to‑do list drawings, and a custom Roo charm honoring his golden retriever and red fox lab mix.

Klincewicz said in a statement that this collaboration was based around his early influences from living in Southern California – skating, the circus, music, new friendships, sunshine and the beach.

“I moved to San Diego when I was about 7, so a lot of those early impressions still have some of that child’s perspective – playful colors, rough sketch drawings, long summer days at the skatepark,” Klincewicz noted. “I think there’s a sort of boyish determination in the whole thing, or some of that spirit… I was really imagining everything being completely worn in as I designed it.”

The contemporary artist added that the shoes in the collection are meant to look worn out and discolored from walking through puddles and have marks on the sides colored with a pen.

“I think that’s one of my favorite things about Vans specifically – it’s that they’re really made to be worn in; they gain life the longer you wear them,” Klincewicz added. “There’s a kind of utility that I think gets lost as you get older… So that was a major touchstone for me with this one – making things that come further to life the more you wear them in.”

The OTW by Vans x Julian Klincewicz collection, which retails between $40 and $160 will be available May 15 at vans.com/otw.
