Stockholm-based textile recycling company Syre is expanding its partnership with Target as the companies push to increase the use of textile-to-textile recycled polyester in apparel and home products.

The augmented agreement builds on a relationship first announced last June, when Target was named one of Syre’s launch partners.

Under the collaboration, Syre will support the retailer’s efforts to integrate recycled polyester made from end-of-life textiles into high-volume categories across its business. The companies said the initiative is expected to support 70,000 metric tons of recycled polyester over time, with broader product integration planned by 2030.

“We couldn’t be more proud to continue working with Target to bring next-generation materials into retail at scale,” said  Dennis Nobelius, Syre CEO. “This collaboration helps accelerate adoption and supports the continued development of circular textile solutions across the industry.”

Target said the partnership ties into its broader sourcing and supply chain strategy. Its “Target Forward” strategy centers on a sustainable, inclusive supply chain and broader efforts to leverage the company’s scale to advance business and environmental goals.

“At Target, our guests look to us for innovative materials without compromising on style, design and value,” said Stephanie Grotta, vice president of responsible sourcing and sustainable capabilities at Target. “By advancing textile-to-textile recycled polyester at scale, we’re strengthening our supply chain and continuing to offer quality products at a great value.”

Founded in 2023 by H&M Group and investment firm Vargas, Syre develops textile-to-textile recycling systems for polyester. The company is currently planning its first large-scale recycling facility in Southeast Asia, with construction expected to begin in 2027.

Syre has also partnered with brands, including Nike, as it works to expand commercial adoption of recycled textile materials.
