EXCLUSIVE: Queen Camilla Grants Royal Warrant to Anya Hindmarch as Official Manufacturer of Handbags, Leather Goods

FIT FOR A QUEEN: Anya Hindmarch has been granted a Royal Warrant by Queen Camilla as an official manufacturer of handbags and leather goods. It is the first time Anya Hindmarch has been issued a Royal Warrant by the British royal family.

A Royal Warrant is a mark of recognition to companies that have supplied goods or services to the Royal Household for at least five years, and recognizes commitment to craftsmanship, quality and sustainability.  

The queen has granted 35 individual warrants since 2024, and the latest list of Royal Warrant holders was issued Tuesday.

Fashion and luxury names on the list include London couturier Anna Valentine, who designed the queen’s wedding dress; clothing and accessories retailer Me+Em; milliner Philip Treacy; knitwear specialist John Smedley, and jeweler Kiki McDonough.

Hindmarch said she and her team were honored to have been granted a Royal Warrant. “The appointment is a true privilege and affirms our deep respect for the Royal Household and their continued work in support of British brands and sustainability,” she said.

In an interview on Tuesday, Hindmarch said receiving the warrant was “quite special, and a lovely surprise,” and said she’s learning about all of the rules and responsibilities that come with the honor. Soon, she’ll be able to put the prestigious plaque on her storefront, and the label’s branding.   

This is the second time Hindmarch and her company have been recognized by the royal family in the past two years. In 2024, the handbag designer known for using sustainable materials became a dame, the female equivalent of a knight, for her services to fashion and business.      

Hindmarch’s approach to materials and design chimes with King Charles’ and Queen Camilla’s embrace of the environment, and robust approach to sustainability.

Hindmarch created her first “I Am Not a Plastic Bag” cotton tote in 2007, and followed it up more than a decade later with canvas bags made from recycled plastic bottles.

She has also created the Universal bag, which is made from recycled plastic and is water-resistant and recyclable. She often issues the Universal bags as limited-edition collaborations, at accessible price points. Recent collaboration partners have ranged from the high-end — Daylesford and Whole Foods — to the high street, including Tesco, Boots and Aldi.
