Cara Delevingne, La La Anthony and More 2026 Met Gala Red Carpet Arrivals

It’s the first Monday in May, which of course can only mean one thing: the Met Gala is here. The 2026 extravaganza kicked off Monday evening on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, this year celebrating the Costume Institute’s new exhibition “Costume Art.” Per the museum, “Costume Art” “examines the centrality of the dressed body throughout time and culture, juxtaposing garments and works of art from across the museum’s vast collection to create pairings that highlight the indivisible connection between clothing and the body.”

So what all does that mean for fashion? The night’s dress code is “Fashion Is Art,” which has been interpreted by the evening’s celebrity guests into red carpet fashion. The 2026 Gala is hosted by Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Anna Wintour, with an additional host committee of Anthony Vaccarello and Zoë Kravitz, Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Gwendoline Christie, Alex Consani, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Debicki, Lena Dunham, Paloma Elsesser, Lisa, Chloe Malle, Sam Smith, Teyana Taylor, Lauren Wasser, Anna Weyant, A’ja Wilson and Yseult.

“Costume Art” is comprised of 13 sections, including the “Naked Body,” the “Classical Body,” the “Pregnant Body,” the “Aging Body,” the “Anatomical Body” and the “Mortal Body,” and pairs clothing pieces and accessories with paintings, photographs, sculptures and drawings.
