For its next product launch, menopause solutions company Alloy is targeting the body.
Launching Tuesday and following on the heels of M4 Face Cream Rx, M4 Body Treatment Rxis a prescription estriol body treatment designed specifically for menopausal skin. Priced at $65 per month and sold as a three-month supply for $195, it requires a prescription and is reviewed by a menopause-trained doctor.
The fragrance-free, non-comedogenic formula was developed for areas where menopausal skin aging often appears most, including the chest, arms, hands and legs. Powered by bioidentical estriol and peptides, the treatment is designed to help rebuild collagen, restore elasticity and improve skin density over time.
The launch marks the fourth product in the M4 collection and Alloy’s third independent clinical study across the franchise, reflecting the company’s continued focus on clinically proven solutions for the skin changes women experience during menopause.
In a 12-week independent clinical study, 95 percent of respondents said skin felt smoother, 87 percent reported firmer-looking skin and 79 percent saw improvement in crepey skin.
Alloy was founded by former Marie Claire editor in chief Anne Fulenwider and Monica Molenaar.
“[Skin care] is one of our fastest-growing categories — that and weight,” Fulenwider said. “But our baseline is always getting women the menopausal treatment that they need for feeling like themselves. The number-one thing was to ease her pain and get her the systemic hormone therapy that she needs to start feeling herself again. We’ve built these circles of other products around what she needs and what she’s asked for.”
Skin care products, though, were not on the founders’ minds when they launched the business.
“The face cream started with my incontinence,” said Rotterdam-based Molenaar. “What most women don’t know, but I was fortunate enough to know, is that your bladder is very estrogen dependent and sensitive, so when you go into menopause, your bladder [and] your vaginal skin lose collagen and hydration and there’s something called the genitourinary syndrome of menopause, which can be fixed, treated with vaginal estrogen. I had to go to multiple different doctors in the Netherlands to get a prescription for vaginal cream, but I knew what I was looking for. What vaginal estrogen cream does is it increases collagen, skin thickness, texture, hydration.”
The results were so effective that she decided to start putting it on her face. “When I showed the team, everybody gasped and we’re like, ‘OK, we’re going to make this into a face cream.’ Because why wouldn’t women have access to this? It’s super safe. It’s really effective. The reason why your skin starts to age in menopause is the loss of estrogen.”
