After departing the Met Gala steps on Monday night, all bets were off on where to find the night’s VIPs next. While private parties were a sure bet for some of the biggest names (Beyoncé Knowles-Carter), the spread-out after party options for the rest of the crowd meant that you never knew when the party would really get started — or who would show up.

As one of the classic “after” haunts, Boom at the Standard, High Line attracted an early crowd that included designer Christian Siriano, Coco Rocha, Tommy Dorfman, artist Dustin Yellin and Danai Gurira, as Samantha Ronson kicked off the vibes behind the DJ booth. After Questlove swapped in for his set, Ronson had the entire sunken VIP section to herself, but the night was still young — it wasn’t even midnight yet.

“I wore a knitted dress, because I knew I was going to go straight from the Met Gala to the after party, because I wanted to dance,” said the designer, who was already making good on that intention. “We have Questlove DJing, so we’re going to have good music — and I don’t want to miss that.” For Hearst, music was shaping up to be the evening’s highlight.

“ Stevie Nicks played live, and that’s always a treat,” she added, reflecting on the gala. “ And Grace was my date, so I had a wonderful time. I couldn’t think of a better time.”

Grace Gummer arrived dressed in her second Gabriela Hearst look of the night, trading her gold leather gala dress for a hooded suede dress.

“ Honestly, getting ready with Gabi was the best time we all had — having margaritas and dancing and talking,” Gummer said. “I mean, isn’t that always the best time of a party: getting ready to go?”

Luke Evans, dressed in a leather ensemble, caught up with Adam Lambert on his way into the event; hours later, he would receive his first Tony nomination for his leading role in “The Rocky Horror Show.” He was followed by Misty Copeland, Janelle Monáe and A$AP Rocky — who dropped by and then quickly dropped back out, en route to the next party.

But for those who stuck around, there was more dancing ahead. As the night stretched into the early morning, Kelela appeared atop the circular bar for a surprise performance, with DJ Stretch Armstrong closing out the late night party.
