Rory Kennedy’s Boeing Doc Sequel Gets Netflix Takeoff Date: “Deeply Concerning Portrait Told From The Inside”

EXCLUSIVE: With the latest conflict between America and Iran jacking up fuel prices and airfares around the globe, Netflix and Imagine Documentaries have a flight plan for Rory Kennedy‘s follow-up to Downfall: The Case Against Boeing.

First exclusively reported by Deadline back in July 2024, Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing will debut all over the planet on the streamer on August 19.

“After Downfall: The Case Against Boeing, which exposed Boeing’s role in the death of 346 people, I hoped the company would keep to its word and move toward real change: a renewed commitment to safety, transparency, and accountability,” the Oscar nominated and Emmy winning Kennedy told Deadline today of her 2022 film and Freefall. “But a relentless cascade of terrifying incidents—and the sudden death of whistleblower John Barnett—made it clear we had to keep pushing.”

The Moxie Films co-founder added: “The resulting film, Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing, is at once a startling and deeply concerning portrait told from the inside—through the voices of workers who have risked everything to come forward and the families taking on one of the most powerful corporations in the world.”

The latest docu from the UTA-repped Kennedy, Freefall is produced by Moxie Films and Imagine Documentaries with Brian Grazer and Ron Howard as EPs. Kennedy, Bailey, Viva Van Loock, Sara Bernstein, Justin Wilkes, and Alexandra Korba are producers.

Kennedy’s most recent film was Queen of Chess, which premiered earlier this year at the last Sundance Film Festival to be held in Park City, Utah. Full disclosure, I appeared in the filmmaker’s previous documentary The Trial of Alec Baldwin. Along with Amy Redford, Drew Goddard, Adele Lim and Cord Jefferson, Kennedy is set to join a panel at this year’s Milken Global Conference tomorrow.
