With the Met Gala now off the fashion calendar and the weather finally tuned in for (hopefully) warmer days, it’s the ideal time to level up one’s spring wardrobe. For spring 1981, Halston took an iconic wardrobe staple from the 1950s, the pedal pusher, and created an artfully chic silhouette worthy of any spring red carpet outing. His blooming creation, in red and blue silk gazar and worn with a bias cut vanilla top in silk charmeuse, hinted at his personal passion for flowers — orchids being his preferred obsession. The final result, shown here on WWD’s page one, remains a delightful and flattering alternative for the season. WWD dubbed them “petal-pushers,” noting them as, “One of the freshest additions to the great American pants revolution.”
