As the New York Bridal Fashion Week fall 2026 presentations came to a close, it was clear wedding fashion is heading in a new direction from years past. As multiple looks throughout a wedding weekend have become the norm and many to-be-weds are looking to vintage and ready-to-wear options to fill out their wardrobes, bridal designers are creating garments that lean even further into the couture craftsmanship of wedding gowns to stand out from the competition.
Tiers of crinoline and tulle created dramatic ballgowns, done in a way only an experienced wedding dress designer can. Lace was expertly placed with thoughtful trims and underlays to create detailed masterpieces. Vintage-inspired garments used modern techniques to ensure a precise fit and forward-thinking reflections on the past. Even party looks are using intricate beading and corsetry to create the perfect shine and silhouette for late nights on the dance floor.
The ballgown is back and bigger than ever. Brides who want that classic fairytale moment as they say “I do” will be happy to find boundless options next season as they head to start wedding dress shopping next year. Many designers kept it timeless with clean, minimal silhouettes and soft skirts, while others brought in texture, lace, and appliqués to add extra flair to these statement-making gowns. Longer trains were also in full force to create an extra dramatic moment while heading down the aisle. With so many brides changing into reception looks with A-line, slip, or tea-length skirts these days, it makes sense that they are bringing a go-big-or-go-home mentality to their ceremony attire. After all, when else can you wear that many tiers of petticoats in daily life?
New Takes on Texture
You’ll find way more than your traditional silk, lace, and tulle at weddings next year. Fabric and accent appliqué placement is going in an untraditional direction—and we’re here for it. Find layers of liquid organza creating an ethereal gauzy layer over pieces at Cinq, real and faux feathers creating dimensional bodices and jaw-dropping skirts at Elie Saab and House of Gilles, and woven ties and draped ribbon crafting visual interest at Enaura. We even saw multiple designers, such as Mia Atelier and Marmar Halim, applying unique treatment techniques to fabric to manipulate them into entirely new takes on classic bridal materials.
Lace Detailing
That being said, lace is likely the most-used fabric we saw in collections for fall 2027. Traditional corded lace was ubiquitous across showrooms in ballgowns with long sleeves, sweetheart necklines, and dramatic patterns. We were quite surprised to find many gowns that almost had an ‘80s New Romantic feel with heavy embellishments that veered into gaudy territory. But there were plenty of pieces that still played with lace in more elegant ways. Vivienne Westwood used the fabric for new takes on some of their classic draped silhouettes, while Monique Lhuillier used their signature fabric to craft stunning bodices and hints of Chantilly as underlays. Lace placement at House of Gilles played with sexy sheerness, and scalloped lace trim in Danielle Frankel’s capsule gave texture and dimension to a classic strapless gown. So go ahead and embrace the lace next year—just be sure to check the craftsmanship behind your favorite designs.
Sculptural Shapes
While some brides choose soft, flowing dresses, others choose structure. Those who love more definition in their designs will love many of the gowns coming out of this season. Dramatic mermaid skirts, bubble tiers, and layers strengthened with horsehair and crinoline are all trending in the year ahead. We even saw a few gorgeous designs at Yellow by Sahar with cone-shaped bust cups. But don’t worry… the designer says you can swap them out if it’s a point too far.
1920s Revival
The flapper look reached its peak in 1926, so it only makes sense that a century later we are in a major ’20s revival in the bridal world. From shimmering Art Deco looks that look ready for a party on the shores of West Egg to beautiful dropped silhouettes that harken to the Jazz Age, wedding wardrobes next year will have a hint of the Roaring Twenties.
Girlhood
Designer Marrow Tang dedicated her 2027 collection to the “eternal girl,” a celebration of the lightness and joy within every woman. That spirit was alive across collections, where sweet bows, light pink shades, ruffles, and even embroidered kittens made their way onto bridal looks. This hyper-femme approach to design is both charming and eclectic—perfect for the marrier who wants to showcase all sides of their style and personality on their special day.
