Following four Monte Vista Point Country Club employees, Beef season 2 not only examines generational divides and America’s broken healthcare system, but also fertility issues and the devastating fallout of impossible beauty standards.
Acting titans Carey Mulligan and Oscar Isaac play a jaded (and rather toxic) Millennial couple who run the club, while Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny appear as their Gen Z counterparts, blackmailing their elders to get ahead – both in work and in life.
Which country clubs were used in Beef season 2?
“With the success of season 1, I had the opportunity to visit a lot of country clubs. It was interesting to see the level of comfort and luxury that is afforded to certain people,” the show’s creator, Lee Sung Jin, explained to Tudum. “As I started to catch myself getting a little bit comfortable, I started thinking maybe there’s something here.”
Although the shots of the club appear to seamlessly be filmed in the same place, however, this “perfect microcosm of society” was actually made up of a range of locations: the Spanish Hills Club in Camarillo, California, and the Montecito Club in Santa Barbara, California.
Where in California was Beef season 2 filmed?
Given that the main storyline is focused on their place of work, it stands to reason that a lot of other California locations were used when filming Beef season 2.
“As Millennials without much money, [Josh and Lindsay] probably got priced out of Montecito,” Lee said (though his definition of ‘not much money’ is fairly questionable). The team then landed on Ojai, which he describes as a “Millennial haven” and a “little utopia in nature.”
The scenes at Josh and Lindsay’s house, however, were actually shot in Calabasas (of Kardashian fame), about an hour’s drive away.
In contrast, Austin and Ashley’s apartment was filmed in Newhall, California. “Their approach to nesting is sentimental,” production designer Grace Yun added. “It’s driven by memories they can make around certain objects brought from their family homes or that they thrifted together. It may not be luxurious, but it is their own.”
Other notable Californian locations include the Garden Wok in Tarzana, the Agoura Hills, Malibu and Thousand Oaks, as well as Ojai high street.
Where in South Korea was Beef season 2 filmed?
When Lindsay, Josh, Ashley and Austin first land in South Korea, they stay in the Conrad Hotel in Seoul‘s Yeongdeungpo District (though this isn’t specified in the show). Other scenes were shot in the streets.
Beef seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Netflix now.
